Apparently the Speedway used to be about a thousand feet longer, but was shortened to make room for Space Mountain and for various expansions of the east end of Fantasyland, most recently in 2012.

The "Autopia"-style attractions at the other Disney parks seem to be remarkably viable; Disneyland's was actually expanded in 2000. I'm also astonished to learn that Disneyland once had no less than three versions of Autopia of varying sizes running at the same time (and the main one originally had no guide rails!) Today it's unclear what is so futuristic about these rides that they'd be in Tomorrowland, but the Disneyland Autopia originally represented the then-futuristic concept of limited-access interstate highways.
