I know that these "best music of all time" lists are designed to be pointlessly controversial. But
I'm detecting a pattern here, and it's bugging me. Why does everyone other than The Beatles get to rock? Why are the best Beatles songs all the slow, sugary ballads?
"I Want To Hold Your Hand" is the topmost exception, down at #16; after that, "She Loves You" at #64. The only
hint of Lennon's dark and weird stuff near the top is "A Day in the Life." I like "Hey Jude" as much as the next guy, but there's something off here, and anyway I've always thought the best sweet melodic songs they ever did were George Harrison's "Something" (#273) and "Here Comes the Sun" (not listed).
"Helter Skelter" isn't even on there. Maybe it's the Manson associations.
And, please, "Imagine" at #3? NO.
