Disaster relief and charity scams
I guess it's obvious by now that expressions of relief over New Orleans were premature. (Then again, I get the feeling that the full-scale storm surge scenario would have been far worse even than this.)
I'll repeat the warning I posted after the Indian Ocean tsunami: whenever there's a big disaster there will be people running charity scams, as well as well-meaning but ineffective fly-by-night charities. It's wise to concentrate your donations, give to recognized charities and check before you give; Charity Navigator is a pretty good site.
