New glasses

I got a new pair of glasses, and sunglasses too. They look pretty much like the old ones, but are, I think, slightly heavier. (I didn't go for the Matrix/granny look; however fashionable it may have been for the past few years, I just can't see it working with my giant, round head.)

My prescription didn't change to any significant degree, but nevertheless I had the usual new-glasses experience of amazement at how sharp and clean everything looks. My old glasses had gotten so scratched up from years of abuse that cataract-like clouds were spreading across my field of vision.

I recently got new high-refraction-index glasses, which are much thinner than my (not at all thick) previous glasses. Immediately I thought it was a mistake, because though everything was clearer (a small prescription change), walking home at night produced a number of lens artifacts when it came to light sources, namely a visual copy of the lights, probably due to internal reflection or something. I was pissed off. Then I popped on my old pair and discovered that the artifacts there there, too, but I hadn't noticed them in years. Indeed, 4 months after getting new glasses, I no longer notice or think about the artifacts. Thanks evolving brain!
