resemblance
Sep. 2nd, 2003 06:48 pmA cashier at the Panera at Woburn Mall told me today that I "look like the guy from There's Something About Mary". I haven't seen this movie, but an IMDB check confirmed what I guessed immediately: Chris Elliott is in it.
The consensus seems to be pretty universal that I look like Chris Elliott, especially when I haven't trimmed my beard in several days. Now, I regard Chris Elliott as a genius, albeit a genius of stupidity, so I don't find this terribly insulting. However, I do not think he is generally regarded as an attractive man.
There's been a downhill slide. The general consensus in my early adolescence was that I resembled Ricky Schroeder. This was intended as a mild swipe at my baby-faced appearance, since he was a couple of years younger than me (and was known largely for work done when he was younger still); but he was a cute kid, and if the resemblance had held over time, I would now be, by all accounts, fabulously sexy. Unfortunately it was not to be. Later, when I still had all my hair, there was a brief period in which I was compared to both Larry Bird and Gary Busey; I can only assume that great deterioration in my appearance had already set in. But for the past several years it's been Chris Elliott all the way.
