Hersheypark addendum
Aug. 28th, 2011 11:00 pmI miss the Giant Wheel too. It was one of my favorite rides when I went there as a kid—not a big thrill ride, just a pleasant scenic ride. It was like two gondola-bearing Ferris wheels on the ends of a seesaw, which tilted such that one wheel was vertical while the other was loading and unloading riders at ground level. You could make the gondolas turn if you wanted to.
They ripped it out in 2005 to make way for some kind of weird vertical coaster/drop ride which was never actually built. The old Starship America and Balloon Flite rides (which I could not convince Jorie to go on) are there now.
There's a newer Ferris wheel in another part of the park, but it's just an ordinary Ferris wheel.
The gondola skyride that appears in one of those shots is gone too; they've kept the smaller closed-circuit skyride that uses ski-lift chairs.
I just found out that the Great America parks had a wheel with three arms.
