Imitating the F4 is a bit of a fad; Warren Ellis has turned a thinly veiled version of them into the overarching villains in "Planetary", and of course they were roundly mocked in an episode of "The Venture Bros." Another group that's roundly parodied is the Justice League, but that's really gotten old.
I didn't even realize the BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS FACT that they're the embodiment of the classic 4 elements until i read Neil Gaiman's "1602".
