Druids (originally titled Vercingétorix, but Americans don't know who he was) is a Christopher Lambert movie. That's really all you need to know. Except that it also has an apparently soused Klaus-Maria Brandauer playing Julius Caesar, and taking about fifteen seconds to get a line out. And that it's badly dubbed. I cannot look away.

One Hour Photo is a good, solid movie, well worth your time. Robin Williams seems to be trying to branch out from his twin specialties of (1) hyperkinetic "improvisation" and (2) brain-scourging sentimental glurge (sometimes in combination) by establishing a new specialty of (3) creepy psychos. In this case he plays it subtly, and to some degree sympathetically, and reveals, as he occasionally does, that he really is a hell of an actor. The movie itself adheres partly to the primitive family-values morality of slasher films, but with a few interesting changes; and it's got the beautiful yet disorienting cinematography of Jeff Cronenweth that you so loved in Fight Club. Also, the scene about the film-processor repairman was written just for Kibo and me.

Robin Williams pulled off the creepy guy thing pretty well in Insomnia, too. Unfortunately, the rest of the film itself wasn't enough to keep my attention, and my attention kept fading to other things. Al Pacino was kinda -- well -- Al Pacino-y, and aside from the one twist, the whole thing was kind of predictable. All that to say, Williams seems to be getting a lock on creepy.
