Also...

Several of the stellations of the icosahedron would make excellent Christmas ornaments, if somewhat labor-intensive. I'm thinking that No. 36 (by this numbering scheme, which is idiosyncratic) would actually be feasible, if someone had the patience to glue together 60 of those spiky shapes.

Been there, done that. I don't remember off the top of my head which stellation it was and I'm not sure where I got the pattern for it... this was probably five years ago. It actually was a truncated version, because it was a star to go atop the tree so I lopped off the bottom spike.

As I recall it involved only twelve pieces. Looked pretty good, though I did it fairly hurriedly and it wasn't as neatly done as it could have been. And I used ordinary bond paper (pieces printed in gold on my computer's printer), so it wasn't particularly durable.

Another year I did a unit origami piece for the treetop, which actually survived a few Christmases.

I wrote that before looking at the pages you linked to, and you know, I think it was No. 36 I made.

At least, the pieces look familiar, as they well might if I did indeed cut and assemble sixty of them.
