Dec. 16th, 2004 12:38 amSpeaking of Dione, Cassini also just replicated a Voyager shot I remember seeing here and there, of Dione against the disc of Saturn:

This is probably much closer to true color than my previous picture, since it was actually taken through visible-light RGB filters (though, again, I haven't been very careful about calibration). All I had to do was mess with the channels to get the images of Dione to line up, since it moved significantly between exposures.
I think it's rather pretty. But it's also kind of bland (especially since the rings aren't in the shot), and cries out for jacking up the colors to glorious Press-Release-O-Chrome:
