Actually, you know what is a vicious earworm? This proto-version of "Drugs". I never thought of this song as catchy—the album version is kind of disturbing; Nancy Reagan could have used it—but something about the stereo-ping-pong guitar hook in this concert version from like 1978 just sticks in your head and won't come out.

One thing that I really appreciate about the TNOTBITH reissue is that it takes what is generally regarded as one of their weakest studio tracks - Animals - and turns it into a real toe-tapper, with singalong Laugh At Me chorus.

Hey, I always liked the studio "Animals", if only because I thought the lyrics were hilarious. But this version is pretty cool.

Also, a correction to my previous post on Stop Making Sense: The current CD doesn't have all the songs from the movie, since I remember the movie including "Big Business" (a song from Byrne's suite for Twyla Tharp's ballet The Catherine Wheel, which was also the source for "What A Day That Was"). But it has more songs than the LP and the 1980s CD had.

The 1982-1983 Talking Heads touring band had a lot of the solo material in its repertoire. What A Day That Was is on the album, but Big Business (usually paired with I Zimbra in a mini-medley) and Eyes Wide Open (Big Blue Plymouth) were also played a lot.

And in addition to Genius of Love, Wordy Rappinghood and L'Elephant were performed by the 1982 band. They even threw in Slink, from Jerry Harrison's solo album. By 1983-1984, though, they seemed to have cut most of the solo suff back to David's stuff and Genius of Love.

easytree.org has a lot of the TH live shows on bittorrent, if you're obsessive like I am. :)

Yeah, that's right, in the movie they did it with I Zimbra.

Conversely, I saw the Tom Tom Club at the 9:30 in DC sometime in the mid-Eighties, and I remember they did "Psycho Killer" with Tina Weymouth singing.
