Yep, this page has a working RSS feed, all right. I suppose that's useful to somebody.

(I was inspired to check when Matt Welch asked how he could get one and was informed that he already had one. I'd heard that LiveJournals all have them.)

recoding

If the style of these pages goes temporarily wacky, it's because I'm rebuilding them to be more structurally sound. They may get slightly fancier in time as well.

The lastn and day views are now valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. The friends view is as close as I can make it without control over other people's code. Calendar view is next.

Not only do the views validate (or as nearly so as practicable), the source code is a bit lighter and more readable as well, and the calendar page is no longer completely wacky-looking with months of random width. I did put my picture on the front page, which bulks it up a tiny bit.

mood icons

Oops, the code for the silly mood icons I'm using has an illegal "absmiddle" in there. Well, I don't use those often anyway, and I don't think it's actually hurting anything.

Good code

Anyway, as I've said more than once before, I think that the default templates ("styles" in LJ-speak) provided to LJ users ought to have code in them at least as well-formed as the ones I hacked up today. The new style system does seem to be an interesting overhaul of the template-editing user interface, but the HTML in the templates themselves could be better.

I might make mine public sooner or later.

It would be even nicer if there were a facility for linking to separate CSS files served from LiveJournal. That might actually reduce the load on the servers, since elaborate styles could be cached for multiple views and the view HTML could be extremely lean.

(Users could link to stylesheets on servers external to LiveJournal, but that's not really a good idea for various reasons.)

Update: Fiddled with the code to demonstrate a silly trick.

Update update: Took out the trick because it ruined validation completely. The "one-paragraph-per-entry-with-BRs" format really cramps my style.

A picture of Radka in her younger days just cracked the inscrutably determined Top 20 on Rate My Kitten. (Thanks to Andy N for the heads-up.)

You have to admit that that is one cute kitten. And now she can fly:
Radka flying! )
