I'f I'm reading this picture right, it looks like it shows Epimetheus raising a displacement wave in the ring system, seen almost edge-on.

I don't see anything unusual in that picture... what do you mean?

The ring gets thicker and resolves into two strands right near the end.

It could, on the other hand, be an illusion caused by shadows further down.

I now think it probably was a shadow/perspective illusion: this picture (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/images/raw/raw-images-details.cfm?feiImageID=33687) shows a similar scene more precisely edge-on, and there's no visible warping of the ring.
