The Royal Tenenbaums
Aug. 2nd, 2003 11:12 pmI finally watched this movie. It's extremely good.
alt.religion.kibology regular stephenls is in it (and gets a lot of screen time, and is deadpan hilarious), playing a kid who is the endless case study of Bill Murray's character, who is pretty obviously based on Oliver Sacks, meaning that now both Robin Williams and Bill Murray have played him in movies. Murray was funnier than Williams.

Date: 2003-08-03 05:23 am (UTC)I attended a reading by Dr. Sacks speak back when _The Island of the Colorblind..._ came out, and he really ought to be playing himself in these movies-- he looks and sounds exactly like he ought to, and any director would be ashamed to demand a second take.
On the other hand, I guess method actors really do their homework sometimes-- I've attended a public lecture on SETI given by Dr. Jill Tarter, and was pretty impressed at how Jodie Foster had basically plagarized the scientist's manner and personality for her character for "Contact."
