springtime
Mar. 28th, 2005 08:56 pmWell, the snow's all gone, but one of my tires blew today and I had to put on the spare while it was raining buckets.
Fortunately I was close to home, and Sam has a telescoping lug wrench that is much better than those nasty little ones that come with the car. I still got completely soaked.
The good news is that the tire guys claim to have fixed the rim leak that kept deflating my left rear tire. I was amazed that it wasn't that one that blew.

Date: 2005-03-28 06:27 pm (UTC)It made me look like Zorro. Delighted my mother-in-law, who thinks I'm the cutest thing walking the planet, anyway.
As it turns out, this hat is amazingly practical in the rain, because of its wide brim. One day, I had to go out in a soaking rain like the one we got today (you obviously live somewhere near North Jersey) to take care of business with some guys who'd come by to pick up an old car I was junking. (I always drive my cars into the ground. Nothing is more wasteful than spending money on a new car, or withholding it from fixing an old one.) I wore this hat, and it made working in the rain - a driving, wind-driven rain at that - a breeze.
Forget about buying it: LL Bean doesn't carry it anymore, and I've never been able to locate the original maker, who's in New Zealand somewhere. My only hope is to find a custom hatmaker, but even in NYC, that's tough.
