I got to see the first 20 minutes or so on Monday night-- I know a guy who knows a projectionist and they were doing their test-run (the sound couldn't stay in sync, so they had more work to do). Go see it in IMAX if possible-- those first 20 minutes at least have some visuals that supercede a number of good IMAX documentaries I've seen.
I've gotta say that 20 minutes of a movie makes one helluva teaser-- I was reasonably looking forward to BB before, but now I'm positively itching to see it. Bothered, if you will.
I think the reviewer was a she (and she was commenting on the Sixties TV series, by way of saying that "Batman Begins" is not like it). I suppose there's some validity to bringing up Lichtenstein in that the old TV series was also probably being pop-art-ironic. But it's still odd, considering that the similarity is that they were both imitating the appearance of comic-book panels.
I was reading through the imdb trivia page for Batman begins, and it notes that Frank Miller was brought in to write a movie adaptation of Batman: Year One (on which Batman Begins is based) which apparently transformed the batmobile into a Caddy, and Alfred into some sort of pimp. Or something. You should go look, I really can't do it justice.
