Rep. Joe Barton sends "request for information" letters to the IPCC heads and the authors of the famous "hockey stick" climate paper, which more or less insinuate that they've got something to hide, request gigantic amounts of documentation in a vaguely threatening manner, and put the burden of proof on them to defend themselves against McIntyre and McKittrick's incredibly lame attacks. Mind you, Mann and others in the climate science community have already defended the results in public time and again, but apparently the House Energy and Commerce Committee want to personally pore through their source code just to be sure, because, you know, the entire field of study rests on this one paper.

Gee, I wonder why scientists are feeling hesitant about working in this country.
