Lost landers

A while back, the news made the rounds that the Mars Global Surveyor image analysis team at Malin Space Science Systems might have found the wreckage of the Mars Polar Lander. More recently, higher-resolution images were taken of the site and they retracted their claim.
Now, there seems to be a new controversy afoot: Colin Pillinger claims that Mars Express has photographed the Beagle 2 crash site, inside a tiny crater on Isidis Planitia. But it's a site that the Global Surveyor people had already looked at and apparently eliminated as a possibility.
