If a machine calls you eight times in a row and begins by saying something like "Stay on the line for some important information about Candidate Foo", the organization that is harassing you is probably working for Candidate Foo's opponent.

Just so you know.

Or even more likely, working for Candidate Bar's political party but not the candidate him/herself, allowing for semi-plausible deniability in the form of "I'm not responsible for that! It's just the people I agree with that are doing it."

This kind of thing used to happen before McCain/Feingold too, right?

Candidate Bar has better ideas, though.

That's been the belief around here for a while. Unless they want you to suspect that, in which case it is Candidate Foo trying to use double reverse psychology.

We came home from our trip to plenty of phone messages telling us how to vote, and for once the amount of junk mail devoted to giving Mez and I a better mortgage rate was only the second most popular subject for the week.

It appears that even with the current set of deceptive robocalls coming from the RNCC, you can tell who they're really for by listening all the way to the end (so that the calls can be claimed not to be technically deceptive). The genius of them is that they're designed to fool people who hang up early into believing they're from the other side, and then they call those hang-up numbers over and over with the same message.

Excuse me, that should have said NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee).

Which, by the way, admits to making the robocalls, refuses to stop (except *possibly* in some states where they are actually illegal, though reports are contradictory) and seems completely unrepentant.

All I ever get lately is a recording asking to speak to "The lady of the house". How come I never get any juicy gossipy political phone calls?

...These robocalls are apparently in violation of FCC regulations that require stating the originating entity at the beginning.
