This entire thread making fun of John McCain using They Might Be Giants lyrics (with video of "Purple Toupee", one of the greatest songs of all time) passed without anyone mentioning that John McCain and John Linnell have the same, slightly unusual middle name (Linnell apparently likes to sign autographs as "John Sid"). Coincidence... or conspiracy?

I happen to be a TMBG-Issue Voter, so McCain's got my vote.

I was going to say that They are democrats (and hey, they're Brooklyn urbanites-- what're the odds) but come to think of it, Their political activity as a band has been fairly limited to Anti-Bush/Anti-War activity, which doesn't necessarily mean they're against the Repubs, at least not forever.

Like, suppose Lincoln could come back from the dead...

Flansburgh seems to be a pretty outspoken NYC liberal of the usual sort; Linnell's more reticent about politics but then he's more reticent about everything.

Their first gig ever was famously at a Sandinista rally, but that may have been partly out of desperation.
