Communist moon turtles

A correction to my earlier post about Moon probes. The first one to photograph the far side of the Moon, the Soviet Luna 3 in 1959, had a stranger and more elaborate imaging system than I thought: there was a 35mm film camera with a little automated film processing unit inside the spacecraft, and then a CRT-photodiode device basically produced an analog fax signal from the developed negative. Ingenious.

Also, turtles circumnavigated the Moon a few months before human beings did.
