A friend of mine in St. Paul send me a link (now expired, sorry) to a letter in the Pioneer Press, apparently the lesser of the twin cities dailies, about the Ice Palace. The writer was complaining that, despite his best efforts, he could not get so much as a callback from the Ice Palace people about whether or not they wanted to make use of an 80-pound block of ice he had been saving from the 1992 Ice Palace. It went on from there, about how nobody gives a damn about community involvement, etc.
But, well, I can see that for a Minnesotan, there's not as much overhead as in other places to keep an 80 pound block of ice for 12 years, but why would you? And why is it that 12 years later he hasn't gotten the hint? Maybe he should just give the iceblock to his grandkids or something.
Also, here's a live webcam (http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/special_packages/winter_carnival/web_cam/) of said St. Paul Ice Palace, via the same paper's website.
