You can tell.

Because I am posting in many one-sentence paragraphs.

This indicates the gravity of what I am saying.

And that means that you, the reader, should think carefully about them.

And reconsider your own values.

Especially when the paragraphs are sentence fragments.

Because sentence fragments are particularly serious.

And when the fragments.

Become particularly short.

This means.

That you.

Should print out this post.

And send it to Ann Landers.

To inspire the world.

Think about it, won't you?

I SEE YOUR MONO- OR FRAGMENTARY-SENTENCED PARAGRAPHS AND RAISE YOU AN ALL-CAPS PARAGRAPH-LENGTH SENTENCE FILLED WITH ANGER WHICH ENDS WITH LOTS OF EXCLAIMATION MARKS OF THE SOUL!!!!!!!

Because. It's. That. Important.

In 73 AD the Mongolian navy tried to conquer Thrace, and failed. The reason was that they didn't recognize the advantage of a decentralized command structure, in which initiative was left to officers relatively far down in the command hierarchy. Everything came from the top; when one of the Mongolians' elephant-ships sank, losing a quarter of their heavy pulling capacity, some of their Javanese-built siege engines suddenly became useless, and they were defenseless against the Swedish and Hessian irregulars hired by the Thracians for the purpose, who harassed them with pot-shots using light sidearms borrowed from the Tuskan sand-people. The experience was so traumatic that it was recorded in the margins of the Piri Reis map used by Polynesian navigators to colonize Portugal.

It occurs to me that this is a pretty close analogy for the present situation. Sentence fragments and all-caps paragraphs are all very well, but when you work long enough as a software engineer you get a sort of sixth sense for whether something like this is really going to work or not, and when an argument really doesn't hold water. So while you may hear a lot in the media to the contrary, I think it's pretty safe to say that Saddam Hussein owns the BBC.

An interesting argument here, but I think it's important to note that the great Mark Twain once said, "There is no character, howsoever good and fine, but it can be destroyed by ridicule, howsoever poor and witless. Observe the ass, for instance: his character is about perfect, he is the choicest spirit among all the humbler animals, yet see what ridicule has brought him to. Instead of feeling complimented when we are called an ass, we are left in doubt." If he were alive today, he might also observe that George W. Bush's failure to comment on the chemtrail phenominon makes it all too clear that he is in the pocket of the Trilateral Commission.

I got an account early this month. Various people, particularly Combustible Boy and Andy Northrup and Sam aka [livejournal.com profile] samantha2074, had been urging me to set up some sort of blog, so I was already thinking about doing so in some cheap-and-dirty manner. Sam already had a LiveJournal account, mostly, I think, because she had gotten involved with the collection of Doctor Who fans here. She pulled in her sister [livejournal.com profile] darkphonics, so then there was a little community of two people who would be an instant local audience. It was only after I got in that I discovered some other a.r.k people already here.
