My monitor, a big old CRT that I inherited from Sam, has developed Imminent Death Syndrome. Occasionally, it is dead, but it gets better. Clearly it is not long for this world.

I'm thinking of getting a flat panel, just because CRTs are horrible massive power-hungry things and I hate them, and we're going to have to rearrange a lot of the furniture in here for reasons you already know. But my carefree days of massive discretionary income are drawing to a close and the LCD panels in my price range are considerably lower-resolution than this thing is currently running.

On the other hand, I'm running at 1600x1200 now mostly because I can, in 3D it's really more than my video card can handle with ease, and the pixels are pretty fuzzy; it'd be nice to use something considerably not-fuzzy even if the resolution is lower. And, hey, subpixel font antialiasing.

I'm sure there was a point to this.

I remember seeing subpixel font antialiasing demonstrated in a Microsoft keynote thing. Does that mean Macs can't do it?

You can get Dell's 24" monste on sale for... $800. Which is probably more than is reasonable to drop on a monitor, especially what with and all.

Samsung 214T ($660) is what I'd go with if I didn't already have a 213T. Other people prefer other monitors, but I find this one looks the best of the sub-$1000 19"+ monitors. But it took me a few months to strengthen my resolve to the point I was willing to play stuck-pixel lotto with $700.
