...and in the spirit of camera geekery, I'm still boggling at the fact that I took this picture with a half-second exposure on a handheld camera in not very bright lamplight. That's what image stabilization (and a cat in a calm mood) gets you. Granted, this is the least blurry shot of several.
Thanks. I did the color correction after the fact; the camera was set on auto white balance, and there was a significant yellow cast (the light bulb was actually a compact fluorescent with a bluer equivalent color temperature than most incandescents, but the lampshade and so forth tended to make the light yellower).
I could probably have saved that step by fiddling with the white balance setting beforehand, but usually I don't bother. For one thing, experience has taught me that I tend to forget I've reset it and end up with far more bizarre color casts on photos I take later.
Pretty cat, indeed. But it isn't that he's not being evil - he's just in repose. You can tell that he's thinking about being evil, because he's got that little smirk.
